Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen is an anime television series produced by MAPPA that began airing in October 2020 on MBS and TBS. The story originates from the supernatural manga written and illustrated by Gege Akutami.

Sunghoo Park directed the opening run of 24 episodes between October 2020 and March 2021, featuring character designs by Tadashi Hiramatsu and music by Hiroaki Tsutsumi. Junya Enoki provided the Japanese voice for Yuji Itadori, alongside Yuma Uchida as Megumi Fushiguro. Toho released the prequel film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 in Japanese cinemas in December 2021. Shōta Goshozono took over directing duties for the second season, which broadcast 23 episodes from July 2023 through December 2023. The broadcast of that season covered the Hidden Inventory, Premature Death, and Shibuya Incident story arcs across six continuous months.

High school student Yuji Itadori joins his school Occult Research Club in Sendai while caring for his ailing grandfather in the hospital. When malevolent spirits besiege the campus to seize a sealed rotting talisman, Yuji swallows the finger of the mythical demon Ryomen Sukuna to protect his friends. The ingested relic resurrects the demonic entity inside Yuji, yet the teenager unexpectedly maintains physical dominance over his mind and flesh. Sorcerer Satoru Gojo recruits Yuji into the Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School to master spiritual combat and gather all 20 severed fingers before facing execution.

Crunchyroll secured international streaming rights outside Asia, releasing the series with English subtitles and dubbing starting in November 2020. Medialink acquired regional licensing for Asia-Pacific territories, distributing episodes through iQIYI and Ani-One Asia streaming platforms. The series won Anime of the Year at the 5th Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2021 and repeated that victory at the 8th Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2024. In Japan, the series captured the Television Animation Grand Prize at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival in 2022. The 2021 prequel film earned over ¥13 billion in Japanese theaters.
