Black Clover

Black Clover is a Japanese fantasy anime television series that premiered on TV Tokyo in October 2017. The series adapts the adventure manga written and illustrated by Yūki Tabata.

Yūki Tabata began publishing the manga in Weekly Shōnen Jump in February 2015 before the series moved to Jump Giga in December 2023. Studio Pierrot animated the television series, with Tatsuya Yoshihara directing episodes 1 through 152 and Ayataka Tanemura directing episodes 153 to 170. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu and Kanichi Katō handled series composition during the broadcast. The first season ran for 170 episodes between October 3, 2017, and March 30, 2021. In June 2023, Netflix and Japanese cinemas simultaneously released the animated feature film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King.

Asta and Yuno are orphan boys raised together at a church in the village of Hage on the outskirts of the Clover Kingdom. Society in this kingdom centers on the command of magic, yet Asta was born without any magical ability. Yuno receives a rare four-leaf grimoire during the regional acceptance ceremony, while Asta receives nothing. When a rogue mage attacks Yuno, Asta summons a tattered five-leaf clover grimoire that contains heavy swords with anti-magic properties. Both boys join different squads of the Magic Knights to pursue the rank of Wizard King.

Adult Swim premiered an English dub on its Toonami programming block in December 2017, with Dallas Reid voicing Asta and Micah Solusod voicing Yuno. Crunchyroll streamed the series internationally, reporting in January 2021 that Black Clover was its most-watched anime series in 2020 across 87 countries and territories. Minako Seki composed the musical score for the television broadcast. At the 2019 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, the series received nominations for Best Continuing Series and Best Fight Scene. The theme song Grandeur by musical group Snow Man won Single of the Year at the 36th Japan Gold Disc Award in 2022.
