One-Punch Man

One-Punch Man is an anime television series produced by Madhouse that began airing on TV Tokyo in October 2015. The anime adapts the superhero manga created by ONE and illustrated by Yusuke Murata, which originated as a webcomic in 2009.

Shingo Natsume directed the 12 episodes of the anime, with Chikashi Kubota designing the characters and Makoto Miyazaki composing the music. Makoto Furukawa voiced the protagonist Saitama, while Kaito Ishikawa provided the voice of Genos. Japanese television broadcasts concluded in December 2015. A second season containing 12 episodes aired from April to July 2019, animated by studio J.C.Staff under the direction of Chikara Sakurai. In North America, the English version first streamed on Hulu in October 2015, followed by an English television broadcast in July 2016.

The story takes place in the fictional metropolis of City Z, where strange monsters and villains regularly attack public areas. Saitama is an ordinary 25-year-old who trained for three years to become a hero, exercising until he lost all his hair. His daily physical routine granted him unmatched strength, enabling him to defeat any monstrous foe with one punch. Bored by the absence of worthy adversaries, Saitama accepts the 19-year-old cyborg Genos as a disciple and joins the Hero Association to gain public standing.

Murata began serializing the manga remake on the website Tonari no Young Jump in June 2012. The anime adaptation was announced in March 2015 in Young Jump magazine. Before the television broadcast, an advance screening of the first two episodes took place at the Saitama City Cultural Center on September 6, 2015. An additional original video animation episode accompanied the tenth manga volume in December 2015. In 2016, the anime earned a nomination for the Magnolia Award for Best Animation at the 22nd Shanghai Television Festival.
