Your Name

Your Name is an anime film animated by CoMix Wave Films that premiered in Japanese cinemas on August 26, 2016.

Makoto Shinkai directed and wrote the film from his own original concept. Masashi Ando served as animation director, Masayoshi Tanaka designed the characters, and rock band Radwimps composed the soundtrack.

The story centers on Mitsuha Miyamizu, a high school girl living in the mountain village of Itomori who wishes to escape rural tradition for a life in Tokyo. Meanwhile, high school boy Taki Tachibana lives a busy life in Tokyo, balancing classes with architectural sketches and part-time shifts at an Italian restaurant. The two teenagers suddenly begin to wake up inside each other's bodies two or three days each week with no obvious explanation. To manage the disruption to their daily routines, they start leaving diary entries on smartphones and scribbled memos on their skin to guide each other.

Ryunosuke Kamiki and Mone Kamishiraishi provide the Japanese voices for leads Taki Tachibana and Mitsuha Miyamizu. Shinkai published a companion novelization through Kadokawa in June 2016, shortly before the film opened in theaters. A side-story novel titled Your Name. Another Side: Earthbound followed in August 2016, telling the events from the viewpoints of supporting characters in the rural town.

Funimation released the film in North American theaters in April 2017. It grossed $408.3 million worldwide, including ¥25.17 billion in Japan. In 2016, the film won the Best Animated Feature award at the 42nd Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards and Best Animated Film at the 71st Mainichi Film Awards. In 2017, Shinkai received Screenplay of the Year at the 40th Japan Academy Film Prize, and the film won Best Film at the 2nd Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
