My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia is an anime television series by Bones that began in April 2016 on MBS. Author Kōhei Horikoshi created the original manga source. Director Kenji Nagasaki guided the series alongside character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi and composer Yuki Hayashi.

In a society where 80% of humanity develops superhuman abilities termed Quirks, middle school student Izuku Midoriya is born Quirkless and suffers relentless bullying. Midoriya still studies professional superheroes and records tactical notes with the ambition of entering the prestigious hero academy U.A. High School. His life changes after he recklessly intervenes to protect a classmate from a monstrous villain, catching the attention of the top hero All Might. Recognizing the boy's self-sacrificing bravery, All Might selects Midoriya as his successor and passes on his transferable Quirk, One For All.

Daiki Yamashita and Kenta Miyake supply the Japanese voices for protagonist Izuku Midoriya and his mentor All Might. Eight television seasons delivered 170 episodes between April 2016 and December 2025. Four theatrical films expanded the storyline in Japanese theaters, starting with Two Heroes in 2018 and Heroes: Rising in 2019. World Heroes' Mission followed in cinemas in 2021, while the fourth film You're Next debuted in 2024. A spin-off television series called My Hero Academia: Vigilantes began broadcasting in 2025.

In North America, Funimation streamed the English subtitled simulcast in April 2016 before releasing a broadcast dub that same year. At the inaugural Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2017, the anime secured Hero of the Year for Midoriya alongside Best Fight Scene for his battle against Katsuki Bakugo. Bones Film animated the final season, which won Anime of the Year at the 10th Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2026. A bonus television special adapting manga chapter 431 concluded the animated screen run in May 2026.
